Drinking the Green Stuff

I was speaking to a friend recently who wanted to know how to ingest more greens without constantly having to cook them. I could relate, constantly cooking every day for all three meals may be impossible for people who are busy.  And frankly I can’t eat salads all the time.

Smoothie’s are the simplest and best answer. And you don’t even have to use a lot of greens to get a nice amount into your system. Plus, it altogether takes about 7 minutes.

There are tons of smoothie recipes out there…using spinach, parsley, other greens – here’s mine with kale. Bananas, I think, are key. They mask any bitter flavor of whatever green or herb you decide to use.

Just remember, always remove the stems. And seeds. If necessary.

This is for one 8 oz. serving. You can double the recipe if you like to make extra and store it for later in the day.

1 cup ice
3/4 cup almond milk (adds a nice sweetness)
1/2 banana (masks bitterness of greens)
12-15 blueberries (just straight up healthy)
Small handful of kale (stems removed)

Measuring cup

Your basic vegan smoothie recipe.

First, blend together the ice and 1/2 cup of almond milk well, about 2-3 minutes. Then add the blueberries and blend again.

Blend for another 2 minutes or so. Add the remaining almond milk. Then add the banana.

Banana. Half is all you need, but feel free to make it more banana-y.

Then blend again, another minute. Add the kale, blend for another 1-2 minutes…

Oh, about this much green should do it.

Pour…and enjoy.
